Hello and welcome to the Spirit Guides.co.uk Network Radio Show, with your host, Mark Chatterton. Today we are privileged to have on the show, Dr Eben Alexander from the United States. His book, “Proof of Heaven – A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife” has been causing waves on both sides of the Atlantic since it was published in October. Back in November 2008 Dr Alexander was living his life, working as a neurosurgeon at a hospital in Virginia. Then he mysteriously contracted bacterial meningitis, which virtually killed him. Yet after being in a coma for seven days, he recovered completely and was able to recount his near death experience. Dr Alexander has written down all that he experienced in his book, which we will be discussing tonight, as well as Dr Alexander’s views on death and indeed life beyond death.
So a warm welcome to you Dr Alexander.
First of all I would like to talk about what death actually is. In your book, you go into detail about what death is, which I understand is not so much about the heart stopping beating, but more about the brain ceasing to function. Is that correct?
You begin on the other side experiencing a dark, muddy state of existence which you call “the realm of the earthworm’s eye view”. Could this be what some people think of as “hell” or would you see it as a different place to that?
After that you were taken up to the light with all its music. Can you explain in mere human words what you experienced in this place?
In the book you tell us that on the other side you had no memory of being Eben Alexander or about Earthly life and who you truly are. It was as though it was veiled to you in the same way that the "heavenly' realm and who we really are, is veiled to us here on Earth. What do you think was the reason for you being veiled in heaven and why do we have to loose our memories here?
Do you think it's possible you were chosen to experience these events? It would seem that somebody of your background and credentials would give added weight to the belief in the afterlife. Do you think this was already a chosen path for you before you were born?
All that you have gone through must have obviously changed your belief system from what it was? I read that you now practise mediation. What else has changed in how you view the world we are in?
You seem to be caught in the middle. On one side you have the scientists who won’t accept what you are saying. And on the other side you have the religionists who also won’t accept what you are saying. How do you cope with all this?
Do you have any views about 21st December 2012.
You have set up a charity called “Eternea”. Could you tell us a little bit about this?
Is there going to be another book telling us more about what happened to you in your Near Death Experience?
